Hello Oppo, I recently started brewing my own coffee instead of drinking starbucks crap, but I need some recommendations on beans.
The more gourmet/hipster, the better

I drink high-octane usually.
I get this stuff from the dent-n-bent grocery near the house for like half the regular retail.

No gourmet-hipster here. I get my coffee beans at Costco. I buy one big bag of Colombian regular and one bag of Colombian decaf. Then I mix the two and drink half-caf. But I grind each morning. I think it tastes great.
Starbucks is shit. When I'm out and about, I drink McDonald's coffee.

I've brewed a whole bunch of different high end expensive stuff, but for everyday coffee the organic beans at trader joes are consistently good, cheap, and readily available. I usually get the French roast.

Gevalia is the best, but if you like it a bit stronger try Cafe Bustello. It's an espresso roast, so it really wakes you up even if made in a regular coffee machine.

I buy Starbucks beans lol. But my suggestions would be to firstly buy whole beans and grind them your self before making the coffee and secondly use either a pour over method of making coffee or my personal favorite, the French press. You basically pour coffee in, pour boiling water in, stir it around and then let it steep for a few minutes. After that you press down a plunger to separate the coffee grounds from your sweet Java and enjoy. Since the coffee does not go through a paper filter there are oils leftover that are normally absorbed. And the coffee has a much fuller stronger taste, in my opinion. There are plenty of YouTube videos about how to properly use the pour over technique to make coffee. I don't think the beans you use have as much an effect as the method you use...just don't scrimp out too much. I stopped using my regular coffee machine because it gets so nasty and dirty unless you clean it out very very often, and the quality of coffee it makes can't compete with pour over or French press. P.s. The coffee served at McDonald's is horrendous, and is only passable because it is served so hot that you can't taste it. They take terrible care of their coffee machines...

There are quality coffees out there and they do well in a lot of situations. But you didn't tell us what your situation is? How do you brew? If you start from bean, how do you grind and what type is it? That shit matters. Also, unfortunately, what your budget is matters, too. Clue us in.

I was half joking when I asked! How could it not be kosher, given that it's not traditional to the Middle East and so wouldn't have a religious custom attached to it and doesn't involve forbidden animals and so on?

Believe it or not, There is non-kosher food available in Israel. If you wanted to, you can even get bacon. Now, most of Israel keeps kosher including restaurants. There's even a kosher McDonalds! But Israel and kosher food are not exclusive to eachother. Also that package of coffee say "Turkey", Its turkish coffee with cardamom

All is revealed. It's to do with the processing and packaging.

Basically, in this instance yes. But there are even some processed foods that arent kosher, like Salsa Verde Doritos have natural chicken flavoring in them. Meat has to be glatt kosher and requires a separate set of guidelines, If the chicken that went into that flavoring wasnt slaughtered and processed correctly, then it isnt kosher. Plus its not kosher to mix milk and meat, so even if the chicken flavoring was kosher, the Doritos wouldnt be.
